In a job market full of applicants, what is the best strategy for you to stand out?  How will you get recognized?  You have to be found in the same circles your prospective employers travel in and in today’s world that is through social networking.  Making connections with the right people through avenues like LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter make networking easier than ever!
Many recruiters now look towards social media to find employees for the businesses they work with.  And jobs of all types are being recruited for in this fashion, be it high-level management or non-managerial hourly employees.
  1. Out of LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter, most employers are using LinkedIn to search for skilled potential employees.  The main reason for this is because of the nature of LinkedIn – a business-oriented social network.
  2. Recruiters are posting jobs on these social network sites because it is now a way for them to expand their horizons.  More people may see these types of job opportunities through social media than they otherwise would get.
  3. Recruiters also post jobs on social network sites because it saves money.  It also allows them to post on specific boards or in groups with individuals who may possess specific skill they are looking for.

What do recruiters look at when scanning over your profile?  Profile Pictures and Job Titles.  Make sure you keep things professional on all of your social media sites if you are in the job market.  Facebook allows you to keep different items on your profile private.  Consider this when posting things to your different profiles that you wouldn’t want potential employers seeing (or your current employer).
  5. Consider following Recruiters in your area on Twitter and Facebook.  They may post different jobs that they are seeking on these boards and you’ll get additional opportunities to view any articles or posts that they may recommend.
  6. Join groups on Facebook or LinkedIn that may focus on your career path.  You never know when you will come across different job postings or make connections with people that may be able to help you in the future.
  7. Optimize your profiles with keywords and do not be shy about updating your status or tweeting out information with your job search aspirations.  The more contacts you have, the more chances there are of someone having a contact that may be able to help you in your job search.
